PREFACE.

THE Life and Adventures of ROBINSON CRUSOE are too generally known to require any comment. It may not, however, be out of place to remark, that as a Narrative, it so entirely accords with the manner in which events of any importance have been related by the New Zealanders, and therefore believed to be within their comprehension, that the Government considers it a publication which would be both useful and interesting to them. Their taste for reading, aided by the Illustrations which have been kindly furnished by Dr. Ralph, holds out a favourable hope that the object in this respect, will in a great measure be realized.
