NUMEROUS as are the volumes which have already appeared on Emigration, the subject has taken too strong a hold on public attention, to render necessary any apologyn for an addition, in however humble a form, to the list.

The Author visited New Zealand unbiassed by any pre-conceived notions, and with an honest desire to ascertain its present state, resources, and prospects; and he trusts that the result of his investigations, as succinctly given in the following pages, will be found to contain information and advice on the principal points of interest to those who may entertain the project of settling in that infant colony.

SYDNEY, NEW SOUTH WALES,

April, 1839.
