[PREFACE]

PREFACE.

THE author of the following pages has told his readers, in his title-page, that he has shown things as they really are, and also endeavoured, as far as in his power, to represent them as they ought to be; setting down naught in malice, but on all occasions strictly adhering to the truth, --his one great desire in writing the work being to guide intending Emigrants in their selection of the most eligible locality for their future residence, without a single bias, in his own mind, in favour of any particular spot, as may at once be gleaned from a perusal of its contents.

London, January 1, 1840.
