[PREFACE]

THE following Remarks regarding New Zealand, founded on Observations made on the spot during a residence in that Country, were laid before the ROYAL GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY, and read at its sitting on the 10th day of March last. Having in consequence been noticed in the leading literary journals, and considerable inquiry elicited, I am induced to print them; partly to gratify the curiosity of my friends, and also with a view of attracting public attention towards the vast field which New Zealand presents for the profitable investment of British capital, and the acquisition of permanent national advantages of an important character.

8, Dorset Place, Dorset Square.
