The Mails for England (via Australia) by the I. C. R. M steamers leave Nelson on or about the 12th of each month.

The mails from England arrive on or about the 24th of each mouth; and the steamers leave Nelson for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Otago on the 25th, with the mails for these provinces.

The local mails leave Nelson Post Office, for the village of Richmond, on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays; and for Waimea West, Spring Grove, and Wakefield, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, at 2 p. m. The mails from these places arrive at the Post Office, Nelson, at 11 a. m., on the days already named.

The mails for Marlborough leave the Nelson Post Office on the 11th and 24th of each month, and the return mails arrive about three days earlier than the above dates, leaving and calling for mails at the Post Offices at Hillersden, Waihopai, Blenheim, ana Awatere.

The mails for Motueka twice a week; and for Motupipi and Collingwood, as opportunities offer,

MONTHLY MEMORANDA.

JANUARY. --Annual election of Auditors and triennial election of Trustees of the Trust Funds, on the 1st. Rents of landed and household property, interest on purchase agreements, and interest on mortgages, usually become payable about the 1st and 21st. Persons renting or purchasing property will do well to have it understood who pays the taxes, and whether or not there are any arrears of rate on the property. Sittings of the Supreme Court on the 15th. Annual meeting of the Nelson Institute. First half-yearly term commences at Nelson College, and at private schools about the 25th. Auctioneers' Annual Licenses granted by the Provincial Treasurer on the 1st.

MARCH. --Richmond Cattle Fair the first Wednesday. Transfer of Publicans' Licenses on the first Tuesday. Claims for insertion of Names on Electoral Roll to be sent in during this month.

APRIL. --Publicans' Annual Licensing Meeting on the third Tuesday. Objections to Electoral Roll must be sent in this month.

JUNE. --The half-yearly Government tenders for rations, &c., are usually sent in. Election of Local Committees under Education Act.

JULY. --Second half-yearly term commences at Nelson College and private Schools. First meeting of the Central Board of Education at noon on the first Thursday. Election of four members of each Local Roads Board under the Country Roads Amendment Act, at noon on the first Monday. Rent and interest due between the 1st and 21st. Sitting of Supreme Court on the 15th. Richmond Cattle Fair the first Wednesday. Election of four members of the Board of Works under the Nelson Improvement Amendment Act, at noon, on the last Monday.

SEPTEMBER. --Transfer of Publican's Licenses on first Tuesday.

OCTOBER. --Claims for insertion of names on Trust Funds Roll to be sent in during the month.

NOVEMBER. --Richmond Cattle Fail* first Wednesday.

DECEMBER. --Half-yearly tenders for supply of Government rations, &c., to be sent in. Transfer of Publicans' Licenses on the first Tuesday. Nelson Races in the Christmas week.

Note. --The District Court sits on the 19th of February and each alternate month.
