[PREFACE]

PREFACE.

This narrative was written by the Rev. J. W. Stack from a diary kept by him during a tour with the late Bishop Harper through Canterbury and Otago in the early days. All who have read other productions of his, know how entertainingly he writes, and we are sure Churchmen throughout the diocese will be glad this sketch is to see the light after so many years have passed. The manuscript was sent to Mr George Harris by Mr Stack, and the former gentlemen asked Mr Jacobson to edit it, and it is now placed before the public for the first time in book form.
